Who is Backseat Driver?
"I'm a Meanjin/Brisbane girl, but I was lucky enough to grow up in Gubbi Gubbi/Noosa super close to the beach. I'm studying and working as a designer at the moment. I'm definitely an introvert, but I hate being bored, so I'm always trying new things. I don't think a day goes by that I don't listen to music for at least a few hours."
Music & digging
"Music was always around me as a kid - my family members were all into music in one way or another. I remember growing up listening to whatever my dad had on: Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Bee Gees, Scissor Sisters. I'm not sure what drew me to dance music and DJing. The aspect I love most about it though is digging for new and old music.
Finding and collecting is just the coolest feeling. You hear it and know instantly whether you love a track or not. The best way I can describe it is like the feeling you'd get as a kid in a treasure hunt or something. There's just something special and intimate about finding music you love."
This mix
"This is actually my first mix that I've put out into the world, so there's room for improvement here! It's mostly deep house if I had to choose an overall sound to describe it. I spend too much time collecting music and find it very hard to stop and just work with the music I've got, so it was hard for me to narrow down my selection.
I wanted this mix to embody a taste of some of my favourite sounds and artists: Moomin, Delano Smith, Brian Kage, Head High (aka WK7), the late K-Hand, to name a few."
Shoutouts
"Huge shoutout to The QUIVR and everyone involved with it - especially Hollee Hibberson and Luke Brazier for showing me a whole new world! I can't thank them enough. That place just radiates love and inclusivity. Not much on the horizon for me music-wise, but I'm keen to get more involved with venues and events in any way shape or form - I love supporting the local scene."
